NS 1800

The Class 1600 was ordered in 1978, after several types of locomotives were tested in the 1970s. One of those was the French Class BB 7200, on which the 1600 is based. The 58 locomotives were delivered between 1981 and 1983. As a result of their delivery, the old Class 1000 and Class 1500 were taken out of service.

The 2200/2300 series consisted of 150 locomotives, built under license in Europe by Allan in Rotterdam (100 units) and Schneider in Le Creusot, France (50 units).

The NS 6400 is one of the MaK DE 6400 series of diesel-electric locomotives built by Maschinenbau Kiel (MaK), (later Vossloh) for the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS), for freight work.

In the 60's, special mail trains were developed for the PTT (the Dutch postal service) to replace the old 'Blokkendoos' wagons. The series was called mP3000 and was derived from the Mat'64 passenger train.

In the 50s of the last century, Deutsche Bahn (DB) planned a single-engine, four axles diesellocomotive with two cabines to purchase. At the time, the V160 was de largest dieselengine family in various variants: the Baureihe 216. After further development, the the Class 218 was the result.
