About

In the 60's, special mail trains were developed for the PTT (the Dutch postal service) to replace the old 'Blokkendoos' wagons. The series was called mP3000 and was derived from the Mat'64 passenger train. They were built between 1965 and 1966 by Werkspoor. In contrast to the Mat'64 that had Scharfenberg couplings, the mP3000 had traditional screw couplings and buffers, allowing it to connect to the specially-built post wagons and other freight wagons. In 1992 the mP3032 was converted to an ATB test train and received the name 'mP Jules'. Later, the test company was split off from the NS and the test train became property of Eurailscout. In 1995 the NS took over some more of the old motorpost trains from the PTT. These ones were used for light freight and cargo duty. From May 1997 there was no longer any mail transported by rail. At this point the last of the motorpost trains were sold to NS Cargo, now Railion. These were also pressed into light freight service. Four of the motorpost trains (the mP 3024, mP 3029, mP 3033 and mP 3034) were converted to test trains for ETCS/ERTMS. Once they finished their duties there, they were sent to Railion and ProRail, and finally to Eurailscout. One of these was eventually converted to another test train, the 'mP Jim'.

About

DD-AR : Doubledecker Aglo-regio Materieel (Stop-train Doubledeckers)
The DD-AR coach sets had a passenger motorcoach at one end of the train and an NS1700 loco at the other end. The newer mDDM trainsets have an mDDM motorcoach at one end and a passenger motorcoach at the other. The mDDM motorcoach was developed by NS Materieel engineering and built for NS Reizigers. Per motorcoach, there are three double-axle bogies. For the NS and most other railways in Europe, this is unique. This layout was necessary to be able to put down enough power to the rails whilst maintaining passenger space above. In total there are six asynchronous current motors available, each with a power rating of 400kW. Train braking can be entirely electro-dynamic, in principle, thus feeding power back into the system under braking. The space for electrical installation and power on the lower deck is very compacy. Because of this, the upper deck was able to be fitted out with proper seating arrangements and compartment doors, unlike other double-deck arrangements.
Because of a slightly lowered passenger floor, the position of the windows compared to the seats is more 'normal' on the upper deck. This means that regular sliding windows can be used for the ventilation - the windows don't have the recognisable bend in them that the other doubledeck units have. The floor between the passenger deck and the engine room is heavily insulated against both heat and noise.
The shape of the nose of the mDDM is basically the same as the DD-AR units. The mDDM is a push-pull unit and has lowered automatic couplers.

About

DDZ / NID : Doubledecker Zone / New Intercity Doubledecker
This doubledecker train consists of DD-AR stop-train coaches and mDDM engines that were revised and upgraded in 2011 to become intercity trains. The interior was completely renewed to cater for two different types of passenger. Upstairs is designed for reading and working - the 'quiet zones' - and the seats are arranged more privately. Downstairs is designed for more public interaction and groups with seats arranged more face-to-face as well as the informal L-shaped "lounge sofas".
Externally the three separate front windows of the mBk and ABvk wagons have been replaced with a single large windscreen, behind which the old three-window frame still exists. There are also two new electrically driven wipers and sprayers, and the cab side windows have been closed off.
The sides of the train sport the blue-on-yellow intercity colours familiar to the VIRM trains, with the blue stripes following the lines of the floors in each coach. High and low seating floors with mid-level entry floors at each end. The missing lower stripe of the mBk engine (no lower floor) sets this train set apart from the similar VIRM.

About

In 1977, units 4001-4007 were built as the prototypes by Talbot in Aken. They were referred to as IC3 and later as ICM-0 to differentiate them as from production units. They first saw service between Eindhoven and Venlo, on a section of track specifically designed for speeds up to 160km/h. Later they went into service between Amsterdam and Nijmegen. From 1983 onwards the followup series 4011-4097 appeared. There were many changes between these and the prototype versions.
Between 1983 and 1990, Koploper units 4011-4097 were built. These units had two powered bogies under one of the driving trailers. The ICM-2's (4051-4097) used 'choppers' to vary the current to the drive motors, giving the train a unique sound on departure.
Between 1990 and 1994, 50 four-wagon Koplopers were built (4201-4250). These units had an extra powered bogie (under the mB passenger car) and added magnetic trackbrakes.
The Koploper got it's official nickname thanks to the characteristic walk-through driving trailers ('doorlopkop', in Dutch). The literal English translation of Koploper is Frontrunner. These walk-through units meant that travelers, catering crew and conductor could walk from one unit to the next without waiting for a station stop.
The walk-through heads have not been used since October 31st 2005. The initial reason given was that passengers and train crew just didn't use them enough. Also, once the onboard catering service was stopped there was no real need for them any more. Because of the complicated construction, they were prone to damage and malfunctions causing problems and delays when coupling and uncoupling - another reason they went out of service.
The unit modernisation started in November 2006, beginning with the three-wagon versions (series 4011-4097). The first new version was delivered in April 2007 from the NedTrain workshops in Haarlem. To differentiage the newly renovated versions from the old, they were denoted as ICMm. These units have a revised interior with about 13% more seating (but less legroom).

About

Verlengd InterRegio Materieel (VIRM) is a doubledecker trein used by the Dutch railways (Nederlandse Spoorwegen - NS). Made up of 178: 98 four-carriage consists (the VIRM-IV, of which 51 are the newest series VIRM-4) and 80 six-carriage consists (VIRM-VI).
The first series (VIRM-1) came about by a life extension program for the older DD-IRM dubbeldeksinterregiomaterieel (double decker inter-region train). When originally delivered, this rolling stock was named the Regiorunner. It was designed for inter-region routes. The first unit (8201) was delivered to the NS in Leidschendam on April 21st 1994 from the Talbot Aken facility.
In 2000 an order was placed for 128 new carriages to lengthen the existing trains. The old three-carriage 8200 series were lengthened by the addition of a power pickup car (ABv6) and became the 9400 series. The old four-carriage 8400 series were lengthened by the addition of both a power pickup car (ABv6) and a motorcoach (mBv7) and became the 8600 series. The most visible difference with the newer trains was the position of the pantographs. They were moved from the driving trailers at the ends of the trainset to the power pickup car (ABv6) in the middle.
In 2007 NS Reizigers ordered another 205 VIRM carriages from Bombardier Transportation, the first of which was delivered on June 27th 2008.
With the extension to the VIRM, the entire train was fitted with a new diagnostic system in the cab to report faults and control train systems. The driver uses the system via an LCD display in the cab to check the train systems before departure, to set things like the destination displays, and to monitor the train systems for faults. Once on the move, the display can also show other information such as speed, air pressures, voltages, power draw, suspension settings etc.
Through a redesigned air suspension system, the passenger comfort in the VIRM is considerably improved over the original models. The air conditioning system is also vastly improved, and the VIRM-IV was the first NS train to get a fully contained vacuum toilet system with a bioreactor.

About

In 1970 the Nederlandse Spoorwegen decided to make a measurable split in the definitions of local trains and intercity trains. For the new local train projects, NS decided that the Mat'64 just wasn't suitable because of the short distances between the stations. The NS decided to start a new project for a train to meet the needs of local service, under the working name "Buurtspoormaterieel". The driving factors for this new train were to be: A comfortable single-step entry point; quick acceleration and braking, suitable for stations as close together as 1.5km with stop times no longer than 20 seconds; a modern, compact front end design; a modern, ergonomic and safe driver's cab that should last at least 25 to 30 years; 20,000km between visits to the workshops; a mass of around 95 tons; enough power to be able to run with an additional middle carriage that was 26.1m long with a weight of around 35 tons. The Sprinters were built by Talbot (now: Bombardier Transportation) in Aken. On March 7th 1975, the prototype 2001 unit was delivered. The production units that were ordered in May 1977 - 60 SGM-1 variants - were delivered from September 28th 1978. The SGM-2 variants were ordered in June and September 1981 - 45 new middle wagons to lengthen existing consists to three wagons, and 15 all-new three-car consists. This brought the total to 60 three-wagon SGM-2 variants that entered service in 1983.

About

The Sprinter Lighttrain (SLT) is an electric multiple unit (EMU) used on Sprinter-services by the Nederlandse Spoorwegen. The units were designed to help phase out the use of 60's and 70's rolling stock such as the older Mat '64.
There are four- and six-car consists, that because of their shorter carriage lengths are similar in overall length to the older three- and four-car trains.
The SLT 'working' designation is S70 (four-car, 69,36 m long) and S100 (six-car, 100,54 m long). The first trains began running tests in the Netherlands in 2008 and were put into service in 2009.
Through the use of Jacobs bogies, the inter-carriage joins are short and wide. A signature feature of the SLT is the large amount of 'airiness' in the carriages. This is possible because of the large windows, and that there are no separating walls or doors between the carriages. The only walls are glass ones, used to separate 1st and 2nd class seating areas.

About

The NS 6400 is one of the MaK DE 6400 series of diesel-electric locomotives built by Maschinenbau Kiel (MaK), (later Vossloh) for the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS), for freight work. After the NS was split up in 1995, all the 6400s were transferred to NS Cargo (now: DB Schenker Rail). These engines are known in Germany as the "Baureihe 264". The engine is based on one of MaK's standard locomotive types - the DE 1002. They are longer than the stock type though because more room was needed for the ATB system and a helper diesel motor that can keep a parked locomotive fully charged as well as keeping the cooling water for the primary engine at working temperature. There is also more room needed for the bogies which are longer on the 6400 due to the use of tread brakes instead of disc brakes. The longer form factor means that the cab is also roomier in this type

Includes

This package contains:

Full custom model.

An additional 6 'look-alike' skins for ACTS, Husa, Independent Rail Partner, and Strukton. The 'look-alike' colour schemes are technically for a MaK 1206 locomotive. There are some big differences between the 6400 and the MaK 1206, but they look similar enough that these skins are a good substitute for a full custom 1206 locomotive.

Hybrid audio uses 95% custom sounds and 5% Railworks sounds.

Comes in eight colour schemes.

Cab with two working driver positions (front and rear).

Independent wiper controls for front and rear.

About

he Stadler GTW (full name Gelenktriebwagen) is a type of electric and diesel-electric train set made by Swiss manufacturer Stadler Rail AG, designed for regional passenger transport, and built using a modular concept. The train was designed towards the end of the 20th century. On February 12th 2013, at Stadler-Inbetriebsetzungszentrum in Erlen, the 100th GTW was delivered to Thurbo - a swiss carrier.
The train is built on an aluminium frame with a nose section made of GRP (glass-fiber reinforced plastic). The modular trains consist of a central power car with driving trailers connected to either side. If the operator wants to, an extra passenger wagon can be placed between the power car and one of the driving trailers. The GTW is a "floating articulated" train: each wagon only has one bogey, with the other end being hooked to either the driving trailer or the next wagon in the consist.
The train has a very low floor. GTWs can be combined together up to 4 sets per consist and are equipped with air suspension.
